As usual, Tuesday is my day off. It was a beautiful morning, mostly clear skies. One gust last night was 37 mph, just after midnight. But this morning was pretty calm. The sun was glaring of the white snow that was higher up the hills and mountains.
Around noon I wanted to go out and get a haircut (20 bucks here), a tradition I maintain every six months whether I need it or not. A few minutes before I left I noticed a storm coming in from Captains Bay, and I knew the sun was soon going to be blocked out. By the time I was in my van, it was gone. When I was crossing over the bridge below my house, it started snowing. In just a couple minutes, it was snowing hard. Not a lot of wind, just big wet flakes.
I went by the post office, then went by Coastal Dock as a favor to DAVE to see what boat was at the dock.. The blizzard was in full force by now. Every time I go to that dock lately it is snowing like crazy. The boat is COURAGEOUS. They are a long time customer of ours, both freight and food.
As a matter of fact we will be delivering to them at 5 PM today, snow or whatever....About an hour from NOW. There may be nothing to see, though. We will probably use our wing truck and that is normally parked a bit out of view and unloaded there.
Courageous is well known in Dutch. Just last year they helped in the rescue efforts when the vessel KATMAI sank, killing 7 of the 11 people on board. That was well west of here, in Amchitka Pass, west of Adak.
The Blue boats were still tied up at the dock, as well as Coastal Merchant, Zenith, and the KJ. I noticed the weight of the bags Courageous was offloading was 50 pounds each. I took some photos in the heavy snow, but it was rough on then camera.
Rode around in the snow taking film of the snow. The weather report was on the radio talking about a chance of snow with little or now accumulation. In 2 hours, we got about 4 inches.
Been trying to download videos on youtube but having trouble lately. Some good stuff is in the pipeline...
Last night I took walk around the hill after dark in 50 mph wind, calm on one side and heavy blowing on the other. Just to do it.
Have that 18 pound turkey in the oven right now.

Kind of a dreary Sunday today. Started out breezy (62 mph gust at 7:04 AM) and sleeting. I ended up watching football most of the day while doing some computer work. There was one piece of air freight that came in for one of the Clipper boats. Last year Clipper bought the Frontier boats, and right now a bunch of them are tied up to OSA Dock. They are done for the season and are waiting for A season, late December. There is an engineer or two manning the boats,...

Hey Eaglemama, did you listen to the GA-UK game today? I missed it and am having trouble catching a score. I know GA has won the last 420 games, so I can only guess the result.KY beat Auburn on the road, but had a tough schedule. It is always tough in the SEC.EXCEPT when you are NATIONAL CHAMP Florida playing Florida International today. Kentucky ought to schedule them too. INTERNATIONAL? Maybe this reflects a satellite campus in Tiajuana, football hotbed that...

Well, all that snow is melting quickly. Massive meltage. Our warehouse yard is a lake with some slush in it. It is 8:15 PM and 40 degrees. 35 mph winds, supposed to get higher later.Just had a 47 mph gust.Today I got some help and we took the weather device down. I took out the battery, and the device continued working. And the error message stopped flashing. We put it back together, still no error message. We put it back up and thought we were done. It was...

Usually when the wind roars at night there is little chance for snow to accumulate. Last night was VERY quiet...It was still dark when I got up, but there was a glow outside. It was snowing steadily. No wind, falling straight down Wet snow. Normally the snow here is short-lived, the squall moving through I have described in the past. But it snowed all day today, and seems to have finally stopped right now. 5:30 PM local. My guess is 8-10 inches, but it is a...
